Client Background
Petlytics AI had existing, unsupported integrations with two smart devices. This meant the device manufacturer could break those integrations at any point. Rather than continue down this path and perform development that is difficult to rely on, Noventum suggested building a device that avoids these risks.
Project Scope
Noventum helped them purchase load cells (digital scales) and measure the weight of a water dish. We also integrated with a camera and built image recognition routines to identify whether a cat is next to the bowl.
We're working through additional developments to determine which cat (or dog) is drinking, as well as moving toward a lighter-weight, more available, cheaper embedded solution for powering the device.
We completed three revisions of the case: the first built from wood, and the next two 3D printed from plastic and designed by Noventum. We also helped them write an alpha-user agreement and find their first alpha user.
Long term, we'd like to help them become a data analytics company. However, until they gain market share, none of the major device manufacturers have been interested in talking with them.
